The nearest relative1 of a patient2 may authorise in writing any other person to perform in respect of the patient the statutory functions conferred on the nearest relative3, and may revoke any such authority4. However, such functions may not be delegated to the patient himself, a person disqualified from being the nearest relative5 or a person in respect of whom, in relation to England an order has been made by6, or in relation to Wales an application has been made to7, the court for displacement of that nearest relative
