If any person (other than a local social services authority1) who is the guardian of a patient2 received into guardianship3 dies or gives notice in writing to the local social services authority that he desires to relinquish the functions of guardian, the guardianship of the patient then vests in the local social services authority4. The authority may either continue to act as guardian, or guardianship may subsequently be transferred in pursuance of the appropriate regulations5 to another person who is willing to act6.
