A postal packet1 addressed to any person by a patient2 detained in a hospital3 and delivered by the patient for dispatch may be withheld from the postal operator4 concerned if the addressee has requested5 that communications addressed to him by that patient should be withheld6.
Special provisions apply to the post to and from patients detained in hospitals at which high security psychiatric services are provided7 and a postal packet sent by such a patient may be withheld if the managers consider that it is likely to cause distress to the addressee
