A patient1 may be admitted to a hospital2, and there detained for the period allowed3, in pursuance of an application for admission for treatment4. The patient may apply to the appropriate tribunal5 within the period of six months beginning with the day of his admission6.
An application for admission for treatment may be made7 in respect of a patient on the grounds: (1) that the patient is suffering from mental disorder8 of a nature or degree which makes it appropriate for him to receive medical treatment9 in hospital10; (2) that it is necessary for the health or safety of the
