If a practice committee1 determines that a person's fitness to practise as a dentist is impaired or that, in relation to a title under which a person is registered in the dental care professionals register, his fitness to practise as a member of the profession, or class of members of a profession, to which that title applies, is impaired, it may, if it considers it appropriate, direct that his registration in the register is suspended during such period not exceeding 12 months as may be specified in the direction2.
