For the purposes of the Human Tissue Act 2004 the following are qualifying relationships, and for the purposes of the requirements under that Act relating to appropriate consent1, they are ranked in the order given below2:
(1) spouse, civil partner or partner3;
(2) parent or child4;
(3) brother or sister5;
(4) grandparent or grandchild6;
(5) child of a person falling within head (3) above7;
(6) stepfather or stepmother8;
(7) half-brother or half-sister9;
(8) friend of longstanding10.
The Secretary of State may by order (except in so far as it applies to certain provisions of the Human Transplantation (Wales) Act 2013)11
