557. Principal functions of the Council.

The principal functions of the Health and Care Professions Council1 are to establish from time to time standards of education, training, conduct and performance for members of the relevant professions2 and to ensure the maintenance of those standards3. The over-arching objective of the Council in exercising its functions is the protection of the public4. In exercising its functions, the Council must:

  1.  

    (1)     have proper regard for the interests of person needing the services of registrants in the United Kingdom5 and to any differing interests of different categories of registrants6; and

  2.  

    (2)     co-operate, in so far as is appropriate and
