Paramedics are required to be registered in Part 8 of the Health and Care Professions Council register1 and use of that title is generally not permitted unless so registered2. A registered paramedic3 can administer certain drugs for the immediate, necessary treatment of sick or injured persons4. A registered paramedic is a designated health profession for the purpose of taking intimate samples from people in police detention5 and for the purpose of investigating whether a person has committed certain offences relating to drink or drugs6.
