Nurses, midwives and nursing associates are regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council1. The Nursing and Midwifery Council holds one register which is then split into parts relating to nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses2. It is an offence to use certain titles relating to nursing and midwifery without being registered3. Except in certain circumstances, such as sudden or urgent necessity, it is an offence for a person to attend a woman in childbirth unless that person is a registered midwife or registered medical practitioner
