855. Medical assessors.

The General Council1 may appoint registered medical practitioners2 to be medical assessors3. Medical assessors have the general function of giving advice to:

  1.  

    (1)     any person appointed to give preliminary consideration to allegations made or referred to the investigating committee4;

  2.  

    (2)     the investigating committee5;

  3.  

    (3)     the professional conduct committee6;

  4.  

    (4)     the health committee7; or

  5.  

    (5)     the registrar8,

on matters within their professional competence arising in connection with any matter which he or, as the case may be, the committee is considering9. Medical assessors also have such other functions as may be conferred on them by rules10 made by the General Council11.
