The Health and Care Professions Council1 may appoint registered medical practitioners2 to be medical assessors3. Medical assessors have the general function of giving advice to: (1) screeners4; (2) the statutory committees5; (3) the registrar6; or (4) the Council7, on matters within their professional competence in connection with any matter which any of those persons is considering8. Medical assessors also have such other functions as may be conferred on them by rules made by the Council9.
