Where the screeners1 are requested by a practice committee2 to mediate in a case, a panel3 must undertake mediation with the aim of dealing with an allegation4 without it being necessary for the case to reach the stage at which the health committee5 or conduct and competence committee6 would arrange a hearing7. In undertaking any mediation, a panel may adopt such procedure as it sees fit8. The Health and Care Professions Council9 must not appoint a screener to be a member of a panel undertaking mediation unless he holds such qualification or has undergone such training as the Council
