The Health and Care Professions Council1 must appoint legal assessors2. Legal assessors have the general function of giving advice to screeners3, the statutory committees4, the registrar5 or the Council6 on questions of law arising in connection with any matter which any of those persons is considering7. Legal assessors have such other functions as may be conferred on them by rules made by the Council8. A legal assessor has the following additional functions: (1) to be present at any Part V hearing9 held by a practice committee10; (2) to be present at any appeal hearing11 held by the Council12; and
