The Health and Care Professions Council1 may appoint persons to be screeners2. Screeners must be appointed from among persons who are not and never have been members of a health or social care profession which is regulated under any enactment (known as 'lay screeners')3, and from among registrants (known as 'registrant screeners')4. Such persons must have such qualifications, interests and experience as, in the opinion of the Council, will enable them to perform the functions of screeners
