Upon referral of an allegation1 to the Fitness to Practise committee2, that committee must notify the registrant of the allegation by serving a notice of referral upon her3. In the case of an allegation of lack of competence, the fitness to practise committee may invite the registrant to submit to assessment4, and in the case of an allegation that the practitioner's fitness to practise is impaired by reason of physical or mental health, the fitness to practise committee may invite the registrant to submit to medical examination by a registered medical practitioner5 nominated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council6.
