1104. Restriction on term of new introductory tenancies granted in England.

As from a day to be appointed, the following provisions have effect1.

A local housing authority2 or a housing action trust3 may enter into an introductory tenancy4 of a dwelling house5 in England6 only if it is a tenancy7 for a fixed term8 that is:


    (1)     at least two years9; and


    (2)     no longer than the permitted maximum length10.

The permitted maximum length is ten years11 unless the person entering into the tenancy has been notified in writing that a child aged under nine12 will live in the dwelling house, in which case the permitted maximum length is the period13:
