Where a serviceman1:
(1) begins a period of relevant service2, other than a short period of training3, and immediately before beginning it he was living, together with a dependant4 or dependants of his, in any premises by virtue of a licence in that behalf granted to him by his employer in consequence of his employment5, or by virtue of a tenancy6 so granted otherwise than at a rent (a 'rent-free tenancy')7; or
(2) is performing such a period of relevant service, other than a short period of training, and immediately before beginning it he was so living, and a
