908. Procedure to be followed by rent assessment committees etc.

Although one of the characteristics of assured tenancies is that rents charged are 'market rents', there are provisions that allow for the market rent to be determined by the appropriate tribunal.

Rent assessment committees for areas in England1 were abolished, with effect from 1 July 20132, and the relevant functions transferred to the First-tier Tribunal (or, where determined by or under Tribunal Procedure Rules in relation to any particular case, to the Upper Tribunal)3, which became the appropriate tribunal for these purposes.
