An assured tenancy1 is a demoted assured shorthold tenancy2 if:
(1) the tenancy is created by virtue of a demotion order3; and
(2) the landlord is a private registered provider of social housing4 or a registered social landlord5.
At the end of the period of one year, starting with the day when the demotion order takes effect, a demoted assured shorthold tenancy ceases to be an assured shorthold tenancy unless6, before the end of that period, the landlord gives notice of proceedings for possession of the dwelling house7.
