In the absence of any specific agreement to the contrary, the notice must be given so as to expire at the end of the year or other period of the tenancy1; and, if it expires at a later date, it is ineffective2. Strictly, the notice should be given so as to expire on the last day of the current year or period, although, as the tenant has the whole of that day in which to leave, it must not be given for any particular hour of the day
