287. Contracts for similar rights to be void.

A provision of a contract is void to the extent that it would do any of these:

  1.  

    (1)     confer a right to seize or otherwise take control of goods to recover amounts of the following description1, namely any amounts payable:

    1.  

      (a)     as rent2;

    2.  

      (b)     under a lease3 (other than as rent);

    3.  

      (c)     under an agreement collateral to a lease;

    4.  

      (d)     under an instrument creating a rentcharge4;

    5.  

      (e)     in respect of breach of a covenant or condition in a lease, in an agreement collateral to a lease or in an instrument creating a rentcharge;
