502. Security Council: enforcement action.

Where the Security Council1 determines the existence of a threat to the peace, breach of the peace or act of aggression2, it may adopt one of several courses of action3. It may:

  1.  

    (1)     call upon the parties to comply with such provisional measures as it deems to be appropriate4;

  2.  

    (2)     decide upon, and call upon member states5 to apply, measures (often referred to as 'sanctions')
