286. Privileges and immunities of consular officers.

Consular officers1 are not liable to arrest or detention pending trial except in case of a grave crime2 and pursuant to a decision of the competent judicial authority3. In any other case they may not be committed to prison or be restricted in their personal freedom save in execution of a judicial decision of final effect4.

Consular officers and employees5 are not amenable to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom courts in respect of acts performed in the exercise of their functions6, except in respect of a civil action:


    (1)     arising out of a contract concluded by a consular officer
