The Foreign and Commonwealth Office from time to time publishes guidance on the consular assistance it will provide to British nationals abroad3. For these purposes, a British national is a British citizen, a British overseas territories citizen, a British overseas citizen, a British national (overseas), a British subject, or a British protected person4. As a matter of policy, financial assistance may exceptionally be provided to British nationals who are the victims
