410. Consular access and assistance in relation to United Kingdom nationals abroad.

Under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations1, the United Kingdom enjoys the various rights of communication, access and notification in relation to British nationals abroad (including those detained)2. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office from time to time publishes guidance on the consular assistance it will provide to British nationals abroad3. For these purposes, a British national is a British citizen, a British overseas territories citizen, a British overseas citizen, a British national (overseas), a British subject, or a British protected person4.
