118. Application of the rules of the Law of the Sea.

The rules of international law concerning the Law of the Sea define the legal status of the various legal zones into which the seas are divided, and the rights and duties of coastal States and third States therein1. These rules may arise for application in many contexts, notably in the determination of the geographical and subject-matter extent of the power under international law of the United Kingdom to legislate for and enforce its laws against foreign vessels in the waters adjacent to the United Kingdom.
