A new set of rules replacing previous categories of entry and stay for family members of those present and settled1 in the United Kingdom2 was added to the Immigration Rules on 9 July 20123. Transitional arrangements were put in place for those who had applied for, or had been granted, entry or leave to remain in the United Kingdom under the previous rules4.
