59. Tier 1 (General) Migrants.

The Tier 1 (General) Migrant route, which was designed for highly skilled migrants who wished to work, or become self-employed, to extend their stay in the United Kingdom1 is no longer open to new applicants2. However, those persons who previously entered the United Kingdom via this route are still able to apply for indefinite leave to remain3. To qualify for indefinite leave to remain, a Tier 1 (General) Migrant must meet the following requirements4:


    (1)     the applicant must not fall for refusal under the general grounds for refusal5, and must not be an illegal entrant6;


    (2)     with certain exceptions7,
