The sources of income that can be relied upon, and the evidence required for each source and the format of that evidence, in order to meet the minimum income requirement1 are specified in the Immigration Rules2. The rules also contain a set of general principles which apply to evidence provided for all sources of income3. The key principles are that:
(1) third party support will only be accepted in limited circumstances4;
(2) the employment or self-employment income of a person will only be taken into account if they are in the United Kingdom5, aged 18 years or over and
