An examining officer1 may, in the case of a person at a port2 whom the officer believes to be there in connection with entering or leaving, or travelling by air within, Great Britain or Northern Ireland3:
(1) require the person to hand over all travel documents4 in his possession for inspection by the examining officer5;
(2) search for travel documents and take possession of any the officer finds6;
(3) to inspect any travel document taken from the person and retain it while its validity is checked7;
(4) retain any travel document taken from the person that the examining officer
