The Secretary of State1 may make regulations2:
(1) requiring a person subject to immigration control3 to apply for the issue of a document4 recording biometric information5 (a 'biometric immigration document')6;
(2) requiring a biometric immigration document to be used for specified immigration purposes, in connection with specified immigration procedures, or in specified circumstances, where a question arises about a person's status in relation to nationality or immigration7; and
(3) requiring a person who produces a biometric immigration document to provide information8
