218.     Power to examine persons who have arrived in the United Kingdom by ship or aircraft or through the Channel Tunnel.

An immigration officer may examine any persons who have arrived in the United Kingdom1 by ship2 or aircraft or who are seeking to arrive in the United Kingdom through the Channel Tunnel system3, for the purpose of determining:

  1.  

    (1)     whether any of them is or is not a British citizen4; and

  2.  

    (2)     whether, if he is not, he may or may not
