A person commits an offence if he employs another ('the employee') knowing or having reasonable cause to believe1 that the employee is disqualified from employment by reason of the employee's immigration status2. A person is disqualified from employment by reason of his immigration status if he is an adult3 subject to immigration control4 and:
(1) he has not been granted leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom5; or
(2) his leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom:
(a) is invalid6;
(b) has ceased to have effect (whether by reason of curtailment, revocation, cancellation, passage of
