For the purposes of the statutory provisions relating to support for asylum seekers1 'claim for asylum' means a claim that it would be contrary to the United Kingdom's obligations under the Refugee Convention2 or the European Convention on Human Rights3 for the claimant to be removed from, or required to leave, the United Kingdom4.
