206. Knowledge of language and life in the United Kingdom.

Subject to exceptions1, an applicant for indefinite leave to enter or remain2 has and demonstrates sufficient knowledge of the English language if the following requirements are met3:


    (1)     the applicant has provided specified documentary evidence4 that he is a national or citizen of a majority English language speaking country5 or has obtained an academic qualification6 which is deemed7 to meet the recognised standard of a Bachelor's or Master's degree or PhD in the United Kingdom8;


    (2)     the applicant has limited leave to enter or remain in the United Kingom9 and that leave, or a grant of leave which preceded
