The Secretary of State1 must issue to a person granted asylum in the United Kingdom2 a residence permit as soon as possible after the grant of asylum3. The residence permit may be valid for five years and renewable, unless compelling reasons of national security or public order otherwise require or where there are reasonable grounds for considering that the applicant is a danger to the security of the United Kingdom or having been convicted by a final judgment of a particularly serious crime, the applicant constitutes a danger to the community of the United Kingdom
