207. Immigration officers.

The power to give or refuse leave to enter the United Kingdom1 is exercised by immigration officers2 but the power to give leave to remain in the United Kingdom, to vary (whether as regards duration or conditions) any leave to enter or remain3 or to cancel any extension of leave to enter or remain4 is exercised by the Secretary of State5. These powers, unless otherwise allowed by order made by statutory instrument6 in respect of any class of persons, must be exercised by notice in writing given to the person affected7.
