274.     Functions of the Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration.

The Secretary of State is responsible for appointing a person as Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration1 whose function is to monitor and report2 on the efficiency and effectiveness of the performance of functions by:

  1.  

    (1)     designated customs officials, and officials of the Secretary of State exercising customs functions3;

  2.  

    (2)     immigration officers, and officials of the Secretary of State exercising functions relating to immigration, asylum or nationality4;

  3.  

    (3)     the Secretary of State in so far as he has general customs functions5;
