268.     Expenses of custody, accommodation and maintenance of persons refused entry.

Where a person is refused leave to enter the United Kingdom1 and removal directions are given2, the owners or agents of the ship3 or aircraft4 in which he arrived, or the person operating the international service5 by which he arrived through the Channel tunnel system6, are liable to pay on demand any expenses incurred by the Secretary of State7 in respect of the custody, accommodation or maintenance of that person for any period (not exceeding 14 days) after his arrival while he was detained or liable
