Immigration officers may be designated by the Secretary of State1 as general customs officials and carry out general customs functions2. A general customs official has, in relation to a general customs matter, the same functions as an officer of Revenue and Customs would have, and may exercise the functions conferred on the Secretary of State by the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009
