Before choosing any personal protective equipment1 which he is required to ensure is provided2, an employer or relevant self-employed person must ensure that an assessment is made to determine whether the personal protective equipment he intends to provide is suitable3.
The assessment must include:
(1) an assessment of any risk or risks to health or safety which have not been avoided by other means4;
(2) the definition of the characteristics which personal protective equipment must have in order to be effective against such risks, taking into account any risks which the equipment
