The principal contractor1 for any project which includes work in compressed air2 must appoint as the compressed air contractor3 in respect of the work in compressed air included in that project a contractor competent to execute or to supervise the execution of such work4. Nothing in this provision, however, prevents the appointment of the principal contractor himself as the compressed air contractor provided he is competent to perform the relevant functions imposed by the Work in Compressed Air Regulations 19965.
