The restrictions in the Legal Services Act 20071 do not prevent a private individual from carrying out his own conveyancing but certain precautions need to be observed. For example, it will not be possible to accept an undertaking from such a person and special conditions may need to be inserted in the contract2 to deal with the deposit and completion monies. Regard should be paid to the guidance issued by the Law Society in relation to dealing with unqualified persons
