A number of major lenders have agreed to be parties to the CML Lenders' Handbook1 and other mortgage lenders may instruct solicitors to act on the terms of the CML Lenders' Handbook. The instructions apply where the solicitor is acting solely for the lender or is acting for both borrower and lender, and are widely used in residential transactions. The CML Lenders' Handbook forms the contract between the solicitor (or licensed conveyancer) and the lender where the solicitor (or licensed conveyancer) is representing a lender who has agreed to be a party to the CML Lenders' Handbook.
