The Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993, as amended by the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002, extends the rights to enfranchise or to acquire an extended lease to the owners of flats1. Under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993, an individual tenant may obtain an extended lease2 or the flat owners collectively may be entitled to purchase the landlord's interest in the property3. Currently this latter right is exercised through a person nominated for the purpose, which generally is a company limited by shares or guarantee formed by the tenants
