In cases where registered land is being bought or charged, a pre-completion search should be made at the appropriate Land Registry office1. An application for an official search with priority can only be made by a purchaser, that is, a person who for valuable consideration has entered into or intends to enter into a registrable disposition of a registered estate or registered charge2.
Where the interest being acquired relates to the whole of a registered title, the search application should be made on Form OS1. The application will give details of the title number of the property to be searched, a brief description of its situation, that is its postal address, administrative area and postcode, and the names of the registered proprietors.
