A voyage charterparty is a contract to carry specified goods on a defined voyage or series of voyages1. The shipowner is remunerated by the payment of freight2, which is usually calculated by reference to the quantity of cargo shipped or delivered, but may be fixed as a lump sum for the voyage3. The principal obligations of the owner are to present the vessel in a seaworthy condition4, to ensure it reaches the port of loading and loads the stipulated cargo, and to arrange for its carriage to the agreed discharging port or place
