The international carriage of goods by rail is governed by Uniform Rules Concerning the Contract of International Carriage of Goods by Rail ('CIM')1, which form part of the Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (the 'COTIF Convention')2. The Convention, which also makes provision for the establishment and operation of the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail ('OTIF')3, is given the force of law in the United Kingdom by statutory instrument4.
