The carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo by air is governed by the Montreal Convention of 19991, which provides a uniform international code relating to the liability of air carriers in respect of loss, injury and damage sustained in the course of, or arising out of, international carriage by air2. The Convention consolidated and replaced the Warsaw Convention of 19293, the series of amending protocols which progressively increased the specified liability limits
