60. Taxis and private-hire vehicles.

Outside the metropolitan police district and the City of London1, the principal statute relating to hackney carriages (that is, taxis)2 is the Town Police Clauses Act 1847, 3which provides for the licensing and regulation of taxis and their drivers.
