581. Shipowner's liability in tort.

A shipowner may be sued in tort by his passengers, or by the passengers on other vessels involved in a collision. In addition, the Occupiers' Liability Act 1957, which imposes a duty of reasonable care to visitors, who include passengers, applies to ships and other vessels1. Claims by passengers are affected by statutory provisions under which the owner, charterer and certain other persons may in certain circumstances limit their liability in respect of loss of life or personal injury
